Nextel wireless services play
key role in Kline Auto World's success
Business is booming for Kline Auto World to the point where the Maplewood-based auto merchant is adding a new Volvo dealership - and a third building - to its bustling complex and diverse list of makes and models.

According to assistant service manager Dan LaCroix, Kline's decision to use Nextel wireless services was one of many decisions that has led to the auto dealer's success.

"It's the best system we've ever had," he said. "This phone has increased our efficiency, communications and customer service. It has increased employees' knowledge of our operations. And, it's increased our business."

That's a lot to be said for a cellular phone. However, Nextel's units are not your ordinary, everyday phones; they offer Direct Connect - the digital two-way radio feature available only through Nextel that allows parties to instantly connect with the touch of a button. Pressing that button sends a little "squawk," as LaCroix describes it, to alert the person or group receiving the call.

"Because we're spread over several buildings, the biggest advantage to these phones is the convenience of the instant two-way radio feature-the ability to get in contact with everyone with the touch of a finger," LaCroix said. "Before we had Nextel phones, we did a lot of leg work to track down service managers, parts and service runners and other departments. It was a mess. Now, all we have to do is Direct Connect them and tell them to pick up a customer at the mall, or to add to the list if they're picking up parts, or to bring back lunch," he laughed.

Not only does LaCroix appreciate how Nextel phones increase efficiency throughout the company, he also applauds the fact that Direct Connect allows Kline Auto World to save money on its cellular phone bills.

Because Nextel phones make it so easy to communicate among departments and buildings, the amount and quality of information passed among Kline employees has also increased. "Our people are much more knowledgeable about Kline operations; allowing all of us to be more proactive and productive." LaCroix commented.

LaCroix sees Nextel phones playing an integral part in the company's continued growth. "Three years ago, we started with nine phones; we're now up to 26 and we'll be adding more when the third building opens," he said. "We use them all the time; they are a lifeline for us."
